Should I Start a Job Search in the Summer…or Wait Until Fall?

Summertime conjures up images of vacations, picnics and lazy days by the pool. Not hours spent in your home office, sweating over your resume and trying to schedule job interviews.

That said, you really want to find a new Coeur d’Alene job. Do you wait until September to begin – when everyone, hiring managers included, are out of vacation mode? Or do you start now just in case you miss a perfect opportunity?

Here are a few pieces of advice to keep in mind:

Be Careful of the Competition

Many job seekers think that hiring managers aren’t available in the summer, so hold off on job searches until fall. While that’s certainly not the case, the end result is that there are far more candidates on the market come September than in June. Vacations Don’t Last for Months

Unlike our European counterparts, Americans don’t take six or eight week long summer holidays. If that were the case, then holding off on a search would make sense. Most people take one to three weeks off in the summer, which means there is still plenty of time available for them to hire if they need to.

The hiring process may take longer, though, because a hiring decision generally takes some form of internal consensus. And if the key players involved take vacations at different times, those scheduling conflicts will impact when a candidate selection is made.

Summer Can Be Quieter

For some companies, summer is their busy season. But for many others, it offers a bit of a quieter pace. Oftentimes, this extra space gives hiring managers more time to spend on reviewing resumes, interviewing and hiring candidates for Coeur d’Alene jobs.
